A Mumbai-based company that sells shipping containers approached JAD Studio with an exciting concept of a food chain on NH8 highway, placed strategically every few hundreds kilometers away. The container restaurant would serve tea and other beverages to travelers looking for a pit stop on the highway. Two prototypes were developed, one featuring a single container and another showcasing the food chain in a double, large size container. With the double containers, the design showcased a more user-friendly environment with ample ventilation and natural light, besides accommodating more seats. This prototype created a win-win design from a both business (more seats) as well as design (healthy environment) perspective.
Thanks to clever planning, the restaurant's compact space was wisely divided into the main preparation and serving counter, dining areas, lounge, open seating, smoking area along with washrooms and kitchen - but still appears spacious and inviting. Hungry travelers won't miss the attractive container restaurant with its 40' long facade clad in gradation coloured glass and chevron pattern exteriors proudly displaying the larger-than-life logo.
